Want to be a better leader? Check out this interview.
I think we can all agree that the last few years have been uniquely challenging. It’s hard to plan ahead when the future has been so uncertain.
But leading from fear isn’t going to get you where you want to go. That’s why I’m so excited to share this recent discussion I had with Carole Ann Penney of Penney Leadership.
In this interview, we chatted about:
Our definitions of leadership and how they differ from the typical lens
How to get super clear on what our values are in order to lead well
What to do when fear takes over (Hint: Ask yourself, what if it were easy?)

Eye Opening Insights:
[00:06:29] “The way that I define leadership is moving forward through the unknown. So whether you're leading a team or you're leading yourself it's about where you take things when there is no map.”
[00:13:30] “Values are not words, they're behaviors. And they can be for an individual or they can be for an organization. I'm such a nerd because over the weekend, my family and I sat down and we started to define our family values because, we needed to kind of have something to bring us back to the kind of kindness, the kind of love that we have in our house and, and having those shared words is really helpful.”
[00:20:52] “And then I ask people a question, what if it were easy? What would you do? How would you move forward? What decision would you make right now if you knew it would be easy to implement that or to get that?”

I founded Penney Leadership to help mission-driven professionals navigate their work and lives with purpose and resilience.
For 10+ years, I’ve coached over 200 emerging and established leaders just like you through their career path challenges, transitions, and successes.
Through 1:1 and group coaching, interactive workshops, group facilitation, and speaking engagements, I’m passionate about sharing practical, purposeful tools and perspectives that you can immediately implement to advance your work.
If you’re feeling uncertain, discouraged, or like something within you is calling out for more, I’m here to be your thought partner and guide.
As a Certified Professional Coach, I offer you all the resources and tools you need to become the confident leader of your own life and career. And as a formerly burned-out but “successful” leader who had to dive deep and design her own path, I understand. I’m here to help you uncover your authentic leadership style and create your own meaningful career path that aligns with who you are.
Beyond the Penney Leadership community, I mentor emerging leaders through Brown University’s Women’s Launch Pad, Social Enterprise Greenhouse, and the Institute for Nonprofit Practice.
When I’m not coaching (or listening to career podcasts and reading leadership books!), I'm developing the most important emerging leaders in my life — my daughters Avery and Eliana.
