Who hasn't had a failure or experienced a loss or trauma? Our initial reactions are often to questions ourselves, our own skills, or abilities to cope. This is self-harm can lead to psychological damage. Why are we proactive in care for our physical health and not our mental health? Anyone who has been in transition can likely relate to this experience. There is so much self-doubt, riddled with blame and feelings of failure. But this is when we need a self-esteem boost the most. It can feel awkward trying positive self-talk and writing down our strengths, but maybe that's what we need to avoid falling into a funk.
