Holiday Patience
Happy Holidays!
Thank you to every member of this community - especially my wonderful clients! You have all been a part of making this an amazing year of growth, new opportunities, and deep connection for me. So thank you!
For those of you expecting this email to be a birth announcement, you will have to hold on a little longer! Here’s what I’ve learned in waiting for my December baby:
PATIENCE
For those of you who are parents, you may feel you know what patience is. Patience is waiting for my toddler to put her shoes on in her own time (20 minutes!). Patience is spending your weekend at your kids sporting event instead of at your favorite brunch spot. Patience is also found in the delayed gratification of working on your own development in coaching (the best work in my opinion!).
Like most of you, I thought I had this patience thing down! But then I decided to have a baby. They say the people in our lives are our greatest teachers. And it seems this baby, that hasn’t “arrived” yet, is already teaching me.
I fully expected this baby to come right on schedule, maybe even a bit early, just like her sister. As someone who is organized and scheduled, I planned for this and was prepared…. prepared to wait.
She’s not ready yet! And I’ve been surprised by how difficult that has been for me. I thought I was patient. After all, I do have a toddler. But in second glance, I realized how difficult patience is for most of us:
Amazon Prime 2-day delivery - How frustrated do you get when you order from any other company and it takes longer than 2 days?!
Whole Foods 2-hour delivery - yes, I don’t even have to go to the grocery store any more.
Kindle instantly downloads the book you want to read.
We are living in a time where patience is becoming a lost art, and we are all sorely out of practice.
So here I sit. Over due. Under patient. And with my greatest lesson staring me straight in the belly:
I already have so many amazing things in my life - my family, my friends, my business. Yet, I’m perseverating on the one thing I don’t have right now.
The holidays can be like that. It can make us long for things we think we need or desire more than what we currently have.
How can you fully enjoy the things and people you have in front of you?
How can you release the control you wish you had, and love what is?
How can you create what you want to feel with what you have right now?
Wishing you a peacefully and loving holiday season, and lots of patience :)
