Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg, is an empowering book that speaks to women striving to build a meaningful career and balance all other aspects of life. She talks about the struggles of having children in a dual career household, yet the importance of having an equal partner. She touched on using women's social powers to good use- in networking and in finding a mentor for your career. Although I wouldn't recommend this book for everyone (the social worker in me recognizes how exclusionary these topics are), she asks a question that I think everyone should ask themselves...at least once: What would you do if you weren't afraid?

So often as children we dreamt lofty dreams of who we wanted to be and what amazing jobs we wanted to have. As we got older, we started to identify a lot people we vowed NEVER to be like. And many times by age 30, we've already settled for mediocrity and are quickly picking up the habits of those we didn't want to become.

So what happens? We are afraid of failing...so we end up not trying. There are many reasons why we end up not doing the things we said we wanted to do when we were young (some of those decisions are wise). But no matter what, I encourage you to ask yourself, "What would you do if you weren't afraid?"

I attended a book club discussion on this book. We were asked to write our answers down and share them. Talk about holding me accountable to my dream! Try it yourself and share your experience below!
